The world,
back in focus.
One optometrist. One unhurried, exact examination in a quiet sea-facing room. Prescription lenses cut and fitted on site.
An examination that takes the time it should.
Verre is a single-optometrist studio above the harbour in Kalk Bay. There is one chair, one phoropter, and one person who carries out your examination from the first question to the final fitting.
A full appointment is unhurried by design. The refraction is worked through carefully, every prescription is checked twice, and your frame is fitted to sit correctly before you leave. Nothing is rushed and nothing is upsold.

From people who have sat in the chair
I have never had an eye test where the optometrist did not glance at a clock once. The prescription was the first in years that felt completely right.
The frames are chosen with real care and there is no pressure to buy more than you came for. My lenses were cut and fitted while I waited.
Quiet, precise and genuinely calm. The retinal images were explained to me clearly without any jargon.
Common questions
How long does an examination take?
Allow around an hour. The appointment covers your history, an eye health check with retinal imaging, a careful refraction, and time to choose and fit a frame if you need one.
Can I bring my own frames?
Yes. If your existing frame is in good condition we are happy to cut and fit new lenses into it. We will check that it still fits correctly before refitting.
How soon are my lenses ready?
Most single-vision lenses are cut and fitted on site the same day. More complex prescriptions and specialist coatings usually take two to three working days.
Do you handle medical aid claims?
We provide a detailed invoice and the codes you need to claim from your medical aid. Payment is settled with the studio directly and you claim back from your scheme.
What should I bring to my first visit?
Your current glasses or contact lenses, any previous prescriptions you have, and a note of any medication you take. That is all we need to begin.
Come and sit in the chair.
The studio is on Main Road, a short walk from the harbour. Send a note and we will find a time that suits you.
